PHOTOGRAPHY BY DAVID & MARC MUENCH
Marc Muench has been going to Utah's Bryce Canyon National Park for almost as long as he can remember. "I was there as a kid, dragged along by my parents," he explained. His father, David Muench, the famous landscape photographer, was having more fun than Marc was.
Now that Marc is also a famous photographer, though, he is equally drawn to Bryce's bewitching beauty. Marc combined his own photos with David's in this portfolio on the canyon in winter. "The colors of Bryce are spectacular, mainly because of the bounce light," Marc said. "Light bouncing off one formation and hitting another creates a nice, warm glow."
To maximize that glow at Bryce, or anywhere you're dealing with reflected light, Marc recommends using a polarizing filter.
Bryce's 8000-foot rim altitude brings all four seasons to the same views, Marc noted. "And you get beautiful sunrises because the whole place faces east. I started going there 15 years ago, and I've been back 20 or 30 times, sometimes just for one sunrise." ...
