When desert-weary pioneers made their way into this spectacular Utah canyonland of towering cliffs and wild romantic chasms, they called it Zion, a biblical name meaning "heaven." Widely published in both books and magazines, Muench's photos helped make Zion one of the most popular secondary destinations for visitors to Las Vegas. It's only 160 miles from the Strip, nearly all of that on high-speed Interstate 15, which passes just west of the park.
